Why explore life lessons?

Exploring life lessons is something that I have been doing for a long, long time, sometimes I even learn one.  For example, some years ago I started to ponder the notion that the people in our lives and the things that happen to us may not be as random as they seem to be.  What if certain people are in our lives are there to help us learn lessons?  What if certain events happen to help us learn lessons?  Would that change how we reacted to situations and people in our lives?

Have you ever wondered why you keep some people in your life even though they have a very negative influence on it?  Have you wondered why you keep making the same mistakes over and over?  I have and it has led me to the notion that there must be something I need to learn from the person, or they need to learn from me, and the things that happen repeatedly are likely there to teach me a lesson I need to learn.  Unfortunately, I’m not always aware of what that lesson is.

So my first disclaimer is admitting that I don’t have all of the answers.  I haven’t learned all of life’s lessons, not by a really long shot.  What I do have is experience and a few well-researched theories.  I have spent countless hours researching those who have a lot to say on the topic.  I have read all the books (well maybe not all of them but a lot), I have watched videos, spent time on reflection and self-exploration.  I have also developed some theories.  So here I am with a wide range of information and theories.  Now what?  I’ve put in a lot of time and energy trying to understand and now I find I am creeping up on retirement age.  Beginning to think about what I want to spend my time and energy on when I do retire.

I’ve explored some options for how retirees can spend their time after leaving the workforce and moving into the next phase of life.  Ranging from lazing about sipping margaritas on a tropical island to giving back through long hours of volunteer work.  I might do all or none of those things when I do retire.  For now I thought I might try my hand at exploring life lessons by creating a website where I could share some of the life lessons I’ve learned and continue exploring other life lessons with the rest of the world.

Creating this website is a life lesson in itself, considering my limited knowledge of website development.  Limited knowledge is an exaggeration, zero website development knowledge is the reality.  But this site is all about exploring life lessons…so here we go!
